The Fort Morgan peninsula sits at the western tip of the Alabama Gulf Coast, in Baldwin County. Addresses here carry a Gulf Shores mailing city, but the feel could not be more different from the busy main strip: no high-rises, no boardwalk crowds — just residential beach neighborhoods, dune-lined roads, and the Gulf on one side with Mobile Bay on the other.
One of the peninsula’s best-loved features is that its beaches welcome leashed dogs — something the public beaches in the heart of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach don’t allow. It’s a big reason travelers with pets choose Fort Morgan year after year.
The homes here are in the Surfside Shores area, centrally located on the peninsula off Highway 180 (Fort Morgan Road), roughly fourteen miles west of Highway 59 and the bustle of Gulf Shores. It’s close enough for a grocery run or a night out, far enough to feel like your own stretch of coast. Each home has private neighborhood beach access reserved for owners and their guests.
The Gulf is beautiful and, at times, powerful. Surf conditions are posted daily by flag; when double-red flags fly, the water is closed. It’s worth checking before you head out — and worth teaching the kids the flag colors on day one.
